    The wind turbine blade calculator helps you design a wind turbine blade set with five variables.

     

    1. The number of blades on your turbine. The more blades you have the slower it will turn, however the high surface coverage allows start-up in low wind speeds and gives higher efficiency. A good trade off is 3 blades.
    2. The tip speed ratio (TSR), 2 blades  (9-10); 3 blades (6-8); 4+ blades (4-6). The higher the tip speed ratio the higher the turbines rotational speed.
    3. Blade efficiency. 2 blades (0.30); 3+ blades (0.35). Your efficiency is determined by your blade design as well as the number of blades.
    4. Blade radius, the length of each blade
    5. Wind speed. It is best to use an average for your area, but also worthwhile checking the maximum wind speeds in the area you intend to set up.
